Term Limits

Congress Term Limits:

I disagree that Congress should have term limits. Many of the elected officials in Congress do a great job in their position and should not lose the privilege to be re-elected because of the amount of time that they have served. I do believe that short terms are beneficial, allowing others to have the opportunity for election. Although many newly promoted men running for Congress will not be elected, I think it's because of the good work of the seniors.

Is the US Congress truly "the People's House"?

The US Congress proves to be fair in the fact that it is full of elected officials. As citizens, we have the right to vote for a candidate we feel deserving. Although we cannot choose who runs for a position, we still have the power to choose who makes it into the office. The election process has proven fair as it is our only means of choosing officials in our government. The qualifications of a congressman are unlisted, allowing almost anyone to run as a possible candidate. Social class, job title, and background do not decide who is eligible for election. Anyone who has enough drive and passion can succeed in becoming a congressman. Congressmen hold much power and show great leadership, which is a quality that any man can possess. The responsibilities of the congress are incredibly important and as citizens, we rely on them to take care of the job. Congress works to represent the people, which is why the election process is so important to becoming a part of office. It is truly the People's House, representing the country as a whole and as individuals, with the support from those who put them in their position.

Congress: 3 Question Summary

What are 3 facts you learned about congress this week?
-I learned that there are not 43 House of Reps because there are indeed 50 states.
-There are 100 Senators.
-There are 435 House of Representatives.

Besides qualifications and terms of office, what are two additional differences between the House and the Senate?
-The House of Representatives has more members than the Senate.
-The Senate is smaller but more powerful; House of Reps is larger but less powerful.

What is one way this bicameral system helps to establish a truly representative democracy?
-The bicameral system truly represents states by not only representing through population size with House of Representatives, but also by strength with Senators. States are able to trust their Representative by re-electing them each year or choosing to let them go and be represented by someone else.
